The CIB Berlin Comic Prize
COMICINVASIONBERLIN, Berlin's big comics festival, started the 'Berlin Comic Prize' in 2015, helping young Berlin-based comic artists to develop their own comic project.
Experienced comic artists such as Mawil, Ulli Lust and Kai Pfeiffer already provided mentoring and guidance in the project. The goal of this prize was to create a new stepping stone for a better support of comics and comic artists in the Berlin scene, similar to the support that already exists for mediums like film and music. ComicInvasionBerlin wants to give new talent a chance to develop their own project, be it a comic book or a webcomic. In 2017, following the impulses from CIB and the Deutscher Comic Verein e.V., the Berliner senate installed a nationwide unparalleled Comic Stipend which in the coming years will hopefully be expanded and will have signal effect for other cities in Germany to create more funding for comic art. The CIB comic prize will be continued, the focus of the main prizes will shift more in the direction of preparing comic artists to apply for the senate stipend later in the year. Winners of the 2018 contest are Emily Reichert (category kids), Evelin Graffunder (category teens) and Geoffrey Krawczyk (category adults). Find out more about the winners here. Info for the 2020 contest will be announced early 2020. The CIB Comic Contest is supported by Deutscher Comic Verein e.V. and the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa. |
